Command Sergeant Major Michael Bartelle is the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer at Allied Command Operations.

As the Senior NCO at Allied Command Operations, CSM Bartelle is responsible for mentoring the Alliance's enlisted force and representing their needs to the senior leadership. He ensures the enlisted force receives professional development and standardization policies such as can be achieved among Alliance members, Partners, and Aspirants interested and willing to voluntarily capitalize on enlisted force initiatives. These initiatives include the functional areas of leadership, performance, training, education, appearance and conduct of enlisted personnel.

Throughout his career CSM Bartelle has served in every noncommissioned officer leadership position from Team Chief to Command Sergeant Major.

A native of the Bronx, New York, he entered the Army on June 29, 1979, attending Basic Training and Signal Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Since entering the Army, CSM Bartelle has completed six tours overseas. He served as the Command Sergeant Major of the United States Army, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Command Sergeant Major of the 125th Signal Battalion, 25th Infantry Division (Light) in Hawaii, completed two tours with the 1st Signal Brigade in the Republic of Korea as First Sergeant, a tour with the 32nd Army Air Defense Command, and a tour with V (US) Corps in Germany as Platoon Sergeant. Most recently, he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the United States European Command, February 2005 to September 2006.

He has been involved in various contingency operations, serving as Command Sergeant Major of the USEUCOM Forward/Joint Task Force North during Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as participating in Operations Blazing Skies, Southern Watch, Bright Star, and Provide Hope.

His stateside duty assignments include Battery Communication Chief of the 1st Battalion 65th Air Defense Artillery at Fort Bliss, Texas; Small Group Leader for the Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course at Fort Gordon, Georgia; First Sergeant of the 11th Signal Brigade at Fort Huachuca, Arizona; and Operations Sergeant Major of the 29th Signal Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington.

CSM Bartelle's military and civilian education consists of the 7th Army Noncommissioned Officers Academy in Bad Tolz, Germany; NBC Officer Defense Course, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, First Sergeants Course, Air Assault School, numerous Communication-Electronics courses, and the Sergeants Major Academy, Class 49. He is currently completing graduate studies in Liberal Arts from Excelsior University.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (9th Oak Leaf Cluster), the Air Assault Badge, and the Bronze Order of Mercury from the Signal Corps Regimental Association. .[1][2]
